About ArtXplosion

ArtXplosion: International Art Exhibition 2024 is a joint project between VCD UC, Indonesia; Birmingham City University (BCU), UK; Multimedia University (MMU), Malaysia, and Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Technology (TAR UMT), Malaysia. This year's Theme is "Visualizing Data Information For the World."

In line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ArtXplosion's mission is to promote urgent and relevant global issues among the 17 interconnected global goals. This aims to provide knowledge, raise awareness, and offer a deeper understanding of some of the critical challenges embedded in these global goals.

In this project framework, students identified a chall enging, engaging, and current issue from the 17 global goals in the SDGs. They then created a visual poster that communicates, educates, and raises awareness of the SDGs through environmental conservation, social inclusion, economic prosperity, and cultural diversity.

Recognizing the intrinsic value of diverse cultural perspectives in tackling global challenges, we aspire to address these issues by highlighting folklore too as one of the mediums. The ideation output of rich cultural heritage with engaging design amplifies the impact of information only and taps into the collective wisdom and traditions of communities worldwide.

Through ArtXplosion at Outlining Design 2024: Perpetale, all artworks have been curated by representative lecturers from each country's university. This ensures the quality of the works displayed are the best in their respective fields.

At the end of the tunnel of ArtXplosion, we want to foster a sense of responsibility to overcome urgent SDG issues according to designers' methods and mindsets. Combining SDGs and folklore harnesses cultural wisdom to drive sustainable development, intertwining heritage into the foundation of a more promising future. The combination of information, engaging design, and collective wisdom has the potential to be an engine for the transformation era in design education, spurring individuals and groups to take an active part in striving for a future that is more sustainable and inclusive for all.
